Policies

Purpose Statement

The Coastside Fire Protection District Board (hereinafter "Board") recognizes that its major functions are to serve as the policy-making body of the Coastside Fire Protection District (hereinafter "District") and to govern the activites and shape the future of the District. The Board preserves for the Fire Chief and the professional staff the responsibility of the day-to-day administration and operations of the District in a manner consistent with the policies and rules of the Board.

It is therefore the intent of the Board to set forth a series of policies and Board rules to govern the conduct and deliberations of the business conducted by the Board and to serve as a guide for the professional staff in carrying out the daily functions of the Fire District.

Board Committees

The Board is authorized to establish ad hoc and standing committees. In making appointments to committees, consideration will be given to relevant training and/or professional experience of each Director.

Board members serve on committees to review specific programs, projects or issues and make recommendations to the Board.

The following committees are currently active:

  1. Finance - Gary Burke, JB Cockrell

  3. Land and Structures - Bruce MacKimmie, Cynthia Sherrill
  4. Vegetation Management - JB Cockrell, Patrick Hanna

It is the policy of the Fire District Board to appoint the following Board member liaisons/representatives:

  1. Special Districts Association (SMCo Chapter) - Patrick Hanna
  2. Advance Life Support/ Joint Powers Authority - Gary Burke
  3. Emergency Preparedness - Dept. of Emergency Management  
  4. CERT - Cynthia Sherrill
